Frequently Asked Questions

What is RSVP reading?

RSVP (Rapid Serial Visual Presentation) displays words one at a time in a fixed position. This eliminates eye movement, which is one of the biggest bottlenecks in traditional reading. Combined with the red ORP (Optimal Recognition Point) highlight, your brain can process words faster.

What reading speed should I start with?

We recommend starting at 250-300 WPM (words per minute) if you're new to speed reading. As you get comfortable, gradually increase the speed. Most users can comfortably read at 400-500 WPM with practice.

How do I change the reading speed?

While reading an article, swipe up to increase speed or swipe down to decrease it. You can also tap the WPM indicator at the top right, or set your default speed in Settings.

Can I save articles to read later?

Yes! Tap the bookmark icon on any article to save it. Saved articles appear in your Library tab. Your reading progress is automatically saved, so you can pick up exactly where you left off.

How do I change my news topics?

Go to Settings (gear icon) and scroll to "Your Topics". Tap any category to add or remove it from your feed. You can also restart the onboarding to select topics from scratch.

Why do some words pause longer?

FlashNews uses smart pausing for better comprehension. The app pauses longer at the end of sentences, after commas, and for longer words. This gives your brain time to process complex text.

Tips for Better Speed Reading

Focus on the Red

Keep your eyes fixed on the red highlighted letter. Let your peripheral vision capture the rest of the word.

Start Slow

Begin at a comfortable speed and gradually increase. Pushing too fast too soon reduces comprehension.

Don't Subvocalize

Try not to "speak" words in your head. Let your eyes see and your brain understand without the internal voice.

Practice Daily

Even 10 minutes a day builds your speed reading skills. Consistency is key to improvement.
